The first week of November marked the beginning of an unprecedented wave of retail openings that has seen dozens of restaurants and specialty stores open nationwide.
The trend, which has been sweeping across the nation, is also prompting retailers to focus on the first week, the beginning week of the month, to set their store windows.
The new retailers are taking advantage of the same timing as the rest of the retail sector, which usually opens on weekdays in late November.
But they’re starting to get ready for the opening of new restaurants, as well as a few more specialty stores.
The biggest retailers to open in November include Costco, Home Depot, Walgreens and Target, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
In the first two weeks of November, Costco opened a number of restaurants, including a steakhouse in its namesake city of Chicago and a Mexican-themed restaurant in Columbus, Ohio.
Home Depot will open a new restaurant and specialty store in the city of Minneapolis on November 18, according the company’s website.
Walgreens will open its first specialty store, a grocery store, in downtown Columbus on November 25.
Target has a large store in Philadelphia on November 28.
In addition to Costco, many other big retailers are expected to open on November 11 or 12.
The first day of the year will see more than 2,000 stores open in the U.S., including more than 800 on Thanksgiving.
The National Retail Federation has forecast that the number of stores opening this year will rise to 1.2 million by year’s end.
The opening of more than 400 new restaurants in the first few weeks of the holiday season is expected to help boost the overall sales of retail stores, according a report released on Monday by the National Retail Association.
The group said that opening of a few hundred restaurants in a week will help boost sales for a number and is expected by some analysts to be a bigger factor than the overall holiday season.
